 Help
A Loved One (HALO) |
|
There are few things in life as painful as seeing
someone you care about self-destruct with alcohol or drugs and refuse
treatment. The HALO program is about getting that someone help with
their problem behaviors. Individualized
methods are taught to you to help move them into more
self-directed action for their problems. Every day it seems that I get
some of the following questions from significant others (SO);
-
What can I you do to get my son, husband, parent, or close friend
to stop drinking or using drugs?
-
They say they have it under control but they keep relapsing into
the old behavior.
-
Can they really learn to just cut back or do they have to stop
forever?
-
I know they have to do it themselves, but canít I do something to
help?
-
They have been in treatment before but it just didn't take, and
they tell me that the 12-step method is not right for them.
-
Every time I bring up the topic it goes nowhere AND we get into an
argument.
-
Regardless of what some people suggest, I can't just "kick
them our" and turn my back on them.
